Pastor Phillip Short

Phillip Short is a third-generation United Methodist pastor. Born in Knoxville, TN, he grew up in central-Florida. He attended elementary school in St. Petersburg and junior high and high school in Leesburg. He received his associate’s degree from Emory at Oxford. He received his bachelor’s degree from Auburn University. He received his master’s of divinity degree from The Chandler School of Theology at Emory University.

Since his ordination, Phillip has served churches in Tampa (Palma Ceia), Seffner (First), Lake Wales (First), and presently at First United Methodist Church of Stuart.

Susan, is a graduate of Grace Bible College & Seminary, and has been the Director of Caring Ministries since 2004. Caring Ministries supports families in our church and community, by providing non-perishable food and daily living necessities as well as ministering to spiritual needs.

Sherry Rasmussen - Music Ministry Celebration Choir

Sherry Jackson Rasmussen was born and raised in Westfield, NJ.  She is a graduate of Gettysburg College, Gettysburg, PA with a BA in Music.  Following graduation she taught elementary music in Suffield, Conn.

Sherry has directed adult and children’s choirs in churches in Connecticut Pennsylvania and Florida.  She also has a great interest in English handbells and is presently the director of the Treasure Coast Handbell Ensemble.

Sherry and husband, Brent, live in Jensen Beach, FL.  They were married in 1994 at First United Methodist Church.  Sherry served as assistant music director for several years and Brent was active in the Steven Ministry.  They have three daughters, Elizabeth of Holly Springs, NC, Jennifer of Lake Worth, FL and Nicolle of Dover, FL.

Christina is a native of Stuart, FL. Stuart FUMC is the only home church she has ever known! She has a degree in nursing from Univ of Florida (Go Gators!) and has been married to Mark for 24 years. Their girls Katelyn and Stephanie are both in college.

A registered nurse in a “former” life, youth ministry is her passion.  After many years of volunteering, in many areas of the church, she worked as youth ministry assistant for almost 7 years before taking over as youth director in 2008.  She loves teenagers all the time and likes them most of the time!

Alex 'Torch' Kumpf

Alex was born in Key West, Florida and spent his early childhood in Miami. His family moved to Panama City,FL and he attended Surfside Middle School  and graduated from Bay High School. He was involved in scouting and was awarded his Eagle Scout at Woodlawn United Methodist. He earned his Associate of Arts degree from Gulf Coast Community College majoring in Comparative Religion. He received his Bachelor of Science degree at Southeastern University in Lakeland, FL with a major in Pastoral Ministry and two minors in Christian Education and Bible. He is also a certified Christian counselor through the National Christian Counselor Association. He is now working toward becoming a licensed pastor in the Methodist church.   Alex was given the name "Torch" by his senior youth group . He now is happy to be working at the church as an intern minister.  He enjoys writing (messages and music),playing the guitar/keyboard, and is one step from his black belt in Taekwondo. He enjoys living down in South Florida where he gets to see his sister Heidi Vestrem, her husband Dale , and his nephew Samuel .  He is excited about all the great things that God is doing.

Michelle has been serving the First United Methodist Church of Stuart as part time financial officer since 2003. Michelle holds a Bachelors of Business Administration degree in accounting from Hofstra University in New York. Michelle loves serving the Lord and is excited to see where God will take the First United Methodist Church of Stuart in the future.
